News hardware Xiaomi just beat Elon Musk to the post in the manufacture of the Tesla robot
Xiaomi has just previewed its humanoid robot. It surprisingly has some airs of the Tesla robot announced by Elon Musk in August 2021. The Chinese manufacturer is getting closer and closer to Tesla.
Xiaomi gets into humanoid robots
Tesla and Xiaomi will look more and more alike in the coming years. On the one hand Xiaomi is making a robot and soon a car and on the other Tesla is making cars and soon a robot. The parallel ends there, however, between the two companies.
It’s also hard not to tell yourself that there’s a certain lack of originality in the research and development team. Between the Boston Dynamics dog robot reproduced by Xiaomi and the Tesla Bot. On the other hand, we cannot deprive them of the speed of design of their products.
Named “Metal Bro”, which could be translated as “metal friend”, the robot of 52 kg for 177 cm came to offer a flower to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. To complete the humanization of the machine, the engineers gave it a sign of the zodiac, Leo.
A very unusual presentation
Xiaomi’s robot crossed the whole stage to reach its CEO for a good 20 seconds. It’s actually not a sprinter. But his agility seems very lowwhich raises the question of what is the concrete usefulness of this product. We can imagine it psychologically accompanying single people or helping with simple daily tasks.
At the moment it really is a gadget at a disproportionately high price. Because we have to talk about the very salty price. It should be between 600,000 and 700,000 yuan, or between 86,000 and 100,000 euros all the same. It is therefore very difficult to imagine mass marketing in the months or even years to come. We suspect that the Tesla Bot, if it exists one day, will also be at too high a price.
Meet #CyberOne, our first full-size humanoid robot developed by the Xiaomi Robotics Lab. He is 1.77 meters tall and weighs 52 kg, kind of a big guy among humanoid robots. What nickname should we give him?🤔 pic.twitter.com/WTPOiiC8Ji

Finally, it is more than just a gadget to amuse people. A communication tool to extend the aura of Xiaomi? Currently it is exactly what one can think by seeing its capacities on stage. Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, did not elaborate on its concrete usefulness. We can only rely on the characteristics of the robot, as well as the interaction it has had.
- Speed: 3.9 km/h
- Motor torque: 96 Nm/kg
- Weight: 52kg
- Height: 177cm
It is unfortunately rather weak to get an idea. Xiaomi has nevertheless clarified that its artificial intelligence is able to understand and reproduce human emotions. He would be able to learn from his mistakes to improve automatically. On the other hand, we do not know how much he is able to carry. We will have to wait the next few months to see what Xiaomi has in store for us.
