However, many functions are missing, both in software and hardware, despite frequent complaints from owners. But where are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

This is one of the biggest disappointments: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are absent subscribers. Indeed, although Elon Musk’s firm is very advanced in terms of on-board technologies, whether in terms of responsiveness or the features offered, do not plan to wear your smartphone’s interface on the screen of your Tesla.

For many years, almost all Tesla owners have been asking for the ability to use either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Whether for example for route planning which would be easier than with on-board navigation, or to use music listening applications which are not natively available on the original Tesla software.

Unfortunately, after all this time, it seems very unlikely that Tesla will change its mind and allow Google and Apple systems to embed themselves in the infotainment system of Elon Musk’s company vehicles. To the chagrin of owners of Tesla Model 3 or Model Y, it will be necessary to deal with only what is offered by default on the on-board software. This is of course very regrettable, because despite the small additions made as software updates are made, there is still a significant gap between Tesla’s proposal and that of Apple or Google.

Most manufacturers nowadays offer two practical and popular features for drivers, which Tesla has still not implemented to date: a head-up display and a 360-degree view. As a reminder, this is a small projection (either on the windscreen or on a small transparent screen), visible only to the driver, and intended to clearly display some essential information such as the speed or the route to be taken. follow. The advantage of such suspensions is of course to improve comfort, by erasing all the roughness of the road without you noticing it, but this can also improve efficiency, especially at high speed, by lowering the ground clearance of the vehicle.

The Tesla Model 3 Performance could also benefit from adaptive air suspensions to increase their ground clearance, and thus avoid rubbing the sills or the plastics under the chassis during descents in underground car parks or during elevated passages which are a little too high. However, let’s qualify this lack by the fact that the Model 3 and Model Y are not uncomfortable. They are indeed typed “sport” with a rather firm chassis and suspensions, but nothing prohibitive for all that.

Where are the massage and ventilated seats?

The front and rear seats of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are heated, and even electric at the front, but some comfort options are missing which are sometimes found in vehicles located in the same price range: these are the seats ventilated and massage seats. In addition to providing comfort, the ventilated seats slightly reduce air conditioning consumption. Indeed, by increasing the feeling of freshness, the ventilated seats have the effect of reducing the need for air conditioning in the passenger compartment.

If the heated seats are very effective in providing an immediate feeling of warmth, the ventilated seats are just as effective in cooling the body, and it is a shame that Tesla only offers it on the Tesla Model S and Model X. Recently, Tidal arrived on the infotainment system, and today Apple Music is expected to be the next music streaming service that will be available directly in the brand’s vehicles. With the release of electric pickups such as the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning, many have pointed out that the front trunk is electric, while at Tesla it is necessary to open and close it manually . No doubt we can hope for a change on this point in the near future, but nothing is less certain.

Tesla is still a manufacturer that aims for annual growth of around 50% (in number of vehicles sold) and it is necessary to limit the complexity of manufacturing as much as possible to achieve this goal. This is why each change, addition or modification of a manufacturing process must be extremely well thought out to pose no problem.

There is also the price constraint. Adding an element of comfort would necessarily increase the sale price of the vehicle, thus reducing its appeal to consumers. And Tesla does not want to offer an extended list of options as some manufacturers can do, in order to keep production simple and fast.
