POLITICS – “Scandalous”, is indignant this Wednesday, October 5, the deputy EELV Marie-Charlotte Garin. At the origin of his anger, an amendment Les Républicains adopted in the Finance Committee which aims to remove the tax advantages of individuals making donations to associations committed against animal abuse.

The text, tabled by twenty-five Republican deputies as part of the finance bill, attacks the tax credit to which anyone making a donation to an association is entitled and specifically targets “antispeciesist activist movements”. Denouncing the“agribashing” of these associations in particular towards the “meat professionals”, LR elected officials propose the abolition of the tax credit for associations whose “Members are found guilty of acts of intrusion and/or violence against professionals. » They propose also “to prohibit these same associations from issuing tax receipts, necessary to enable taxpayers to benefit from the tax reduction. »

No structure is explicitly named by the deputies. But the animalist NGO L214, known for entering – without authorization – slaughterhouses or intensive farming whose practices it denounces, appears to be the main target. She and all the associations using the same methods.

You want to hinder the work of whistleblowers”

“It is a gag amendment which seeks to intimidate or deprive of funding of associations which today play an extremely important role as whistleblowers and thanks to which we have discovered a number of scandals”, denounced before the vote the ecologist deputy Éva Sas. The text was however adopted, provoking the anger of green elected officials and L214.

The co-founder of the NGO has, on Twitter, denounced a text “absolutely outrageous” and “driven by the meat industry. “It is not the alleged intrusions that are a problem, it is the images broadcast to the public which show the distress of the animals, the despicable conditions of breeding which are a problem for you”reacted Brigitte Gothière, before accusing the deputies of “wanting to hinder the work of whistleblowers”.

On Twitter, Rhône MP Marie-Charlotte Garin listed the groups that voted in favor of the text: “LR, RN, part of the MODEM and LREM. “Know it, when you let LREM, LR or RN parliamentarians get elected, you are voting for animal suffering”, inserts David Cormand, environmental MEP.

“Once again the right in all its forms is on the side of the lobbies. No understanding of animal welfare, but very nice submission to the logic of capitalism. Shame on you”, says Benjamin Baddouard, Lyon politician. Thomas Dossus, an environmental senator, sees it as a “an additional grave attack on freedom of association. »

Voted in the Commission, the text must now go through the vote of the deputies at the Palais Bourbon. The discussions on the PLF promise to be very tense for the government, the oppositions having already made it known that they would not support it. This did not prevent Marine Le Pen from welcoming the adoption of the amendment. ” Finally ! (…) Political pressure from RN deputies made Macron give in, which had refused this common sense proposal for years”rejoices the head of the RN deputies on Twitter.
