As expected, Tesla’s Model Y has become the American brand’s best-selling model in the world. Nothing could be more logical since this electric family SUV is cut to please customers, always more fond of models with bodywork of this kind. It has already sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide in 2022 and according to estimates from our colleagues at Bloomberg, it could approach 700,000 units sold over the whole year. In Europe, it has just established itself as the best-selling car in the last month of September.
With 29,367 units sold over the past month, the Model Y dominates the Peugeot 208 (19,601 units). The Dacia Sandero completes the podium ahead of the Skoda Octavia, the Toyota Yaris, the Volkswagen T-Roc and the Golf, which continues to decline. Then follow the Nissan Qashqai and the Volkswagen Polo.
A misleading result
Even if sales of the Tesla Model Y are excellent all year round, this very good result for September in Europe is a sham: the American manufacturer often delivers its vehicles in waves instead of selling them continuously throughout of the year. According to the specialists of Best Selling Car Blog, these 29,367 copies thus represent the largest part of the sales of the model over the last four months of the year and not only the month of September. Recall that currently, it is the Volkswagen T-Roc which is racing at the top of the ranking of the best-selling cars in Europe for the year 2022.
