The mischievous young | Playfulness in Youville

The young mischievous has a double mission: to generate gustatory happiness, as in the vast majority of cafés-restos-bars, and to create a gathering place in a rather underserved sector. Youville, between Villeray and Ahuntsic, is trying to revitalize its main artery, Lajeunesse. The street couldn’t ask for better than this pretty, simple and welcoming space, open from morning to night.

Despairing a little to see businesses to her liking open in the neighborhood where she took up residence a few years ago, Andréane Laurin took the bull by the horns. She left the documentary film industry to go into restoration, a field in which she had worked when she was younger. His former boss, producer Frédéric Bohbot, became his business partner in the adventure.

The chef, Axel Bérubé-Théberge, practices real market cuisine. This is partly out of necessity, as there is almost no storage space in the small kitchen, but also because he likes to be inspired by the products of the moment. The majority of the dishes are in the “generous starter” format, with a few beefier proposals. Lunches are unfussy, with soup, sandwich, salad, slate dish, tartare of the day. There are even simple Sunday brunches, an uncommon offering in the neighborhood.

Axel trained in a few Tremblant restaurants and at the defunct Decca 77, among others. His cuisine is as tasty as it is unpretentious. But those who would like a slightly more gourmet meal can try its five-course menu, available by reservation, for around fifty dollars. Andréane will take care of the wine pairings for an additional $50. The owner herself chooses the cuvées that are on her menu filled with artisan bottles.

In short, whether it’s for late morning coffee (the place opens at 10:30 a.m.), for a lunch with or without water, for brunch, for an aperitif or for the whole thing, La jeune mischievous ensures from Wednesday to Sunday (closed during the day on Saturday, in the evening on Sunday).
