the electric that wants to surpass the Tesla Model 3

For the moment, the BYD Seal is not planned for Europe. On the other hand, it is arriving in China and could overshadow the Tesla Model 3.

BYD is preparing to market the Seal in China, an electric sedan that aims to establish itself as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3.

The car was announced for the second half of 2021, but after some delays, it is finally unveiled in its final appearance. The images were published by Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

A new platform

As you can see from the photos, the car has a rather modern design while maintaining the shapes of a notchback sedan. It turns out to be rather elegant and, obviously, the engineers have realized nice aero work.

The Seal has a very distinct style from other cars of the brand, even if the most observant will notice some similarities with other models, such as the BYD Dolphin or the Han.

The BYD Seal is built on the brand’s so-called “3.0” electronic platform and is already used on the Dolphin and the Yuan Plus.

Three versions in the catalog

With its 4.8 meters long, 1.88 meters wide and 1.46 meters high, the BYD Seal has a wheelbase of 2.92 meters, thus promising a rather spacious interior. The Chinese firm has not yet announced the capacity of the battery, which is expected to be a Blade battery with lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry.

What we do know, at least from the first rumors, is that the car will be available in three versionswith a starting price around 220,000 yuan, or about €31,400.
