Tesla’s petition against racial prejudice rejected in the United States

California’s Office of Administrative Law (OAL) denied Tesla’s lawsuit, led by Elon Musk, against the country’s civil rights regulator, which accused the company of racial discrimination at its factories.

California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing, DFEH (now called the Department of Civil Rights), filed a lawsuit against Tesla in February, alleging racial discrimination and harassment at its manufacturing plant in Fremont, California. California.

Tesla then filed a petition with California’s OAL in June of this year, claiming the civil rights department failed to give the electric car maker “fair notice of an investigation”.

The OAL has now denied Tesla’s petition against the state’s civil rights watchdog, TechCrunch reported late Monday. The OAL said Tesla can still pursue its claims in court. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has also opened an “open investigation” into Tesla for alleged workplace discrimination at its facilities.

In October last year, Tesla was ordered to pay $137 million in damages to a black former contractor who accused the company of ignoring racial discrimination and abuse.

The U.S. District Judge then reduced the punitive damages to $15 million. In February, DEFH filed a lawsuit against Tesla, alleging systematic racial discrimination and harassment at its factory in Fremont, State.

The regulator said it had received several complaints about workplace issues at Tesla’s Fremont factory. “After receiving hundreds of worker complaints, DFEH found evidence that the Tesla Fremont factory is a racially segregated workplace, where black workers face racial slurs and discrimination in assignment, discipline, compensation and promotion, creating a hostile work environment,” agency director Kevin Kish said in a statement.

In a blog post, Tesla said the lawsuit follows a three-year investigation in which the DFEH – whose mission is supposed to protect workers – “never once raised the slightest concern about current workplace practices at Tesla.” “The lawsuit instead appears to focus on alleged misconduct by production associates at the Fremont plant that took place between 2015 and 2019,” the electric car maker said.
