storks in the sky of Périgueux

The birds have made a migratory stopover on the journey that leads them south

Monday August 22, shortly after 4 p.m., a curious ballet in the sky aroused the curiosity of the inhabitants of Périgueux (Dordogne). About fifty storks were detected above the Mataguerre tower and the Saint-Front cathedral.

For Claude Soubiran, volunteer at the League for the Protection of Birds, this crowd is not abnormal: “It is a migratory stopover for a group. This is the period, the storks have been on the roads of Spain and Africa since around August 15th. The specialist smiles: “They are not lost. And from Saint-Front, they were not far from the peregrine falcon which nests on the roofs of the cathedral. »
