“SOS, poultry farmers in distress”, duck farmers want to be listened to

From 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the duck breeders of Dordogne met to alert the public authorities to the situation of their farms. According to them, more than 70% of the breeding activity in this department is at a standstill. The reason: the avian flu epidemic and the resulting mass slaughter. Results, the debts accumulate for these stockbreeders of which a part, even all their personnel, is in technical unemployment for several months.

This morning, they were gathered to alert on the situation of their farms. They are asking for compensation following the massive slaughters that have taken place in recent months. They also ask for answers on a possible vaccination of waterfowl. But it is the whole policy of the government which is also called into question, and in particular the drastic containment measures for poultry, the mass slaughter. They also raise the issue of very high-density farms and advocate a return to human-sized farms.

They are received this morning at 10:30 a.m. by Fabienne Buccio, the prefect of New Aquitaine.
