Porsche Taycan steals record from Tesla Model S Poster

Porsche has just shared a video of a freshly achieved Taycan Turbo S record: the lap of the legendary Nüburgring circuit. Until now, it was the Tesla Model S Plaid which held the record since September 2021.

7 minutes, 33 seconds and 35 hundredths: here is the new record for the lap of the Nürburgring in an electric car, achieved by the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The 20.80 kilometers of the legendary German circuit were completed in two seconds less than the previous one record holder: the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Porsche beats Tesla to the post

Last September, Tesla sent its new Model S Plaid and its 1,020 horsepower to the assault of the Nürburgring, with success since a new record for a production electric vehicle (that is to say without any modification) had was established in 7 minutes, 35 seconds and 579 hundredths.

At that time, the Porsche Taycan was more than twelve seconds behind the American sedan, but that was before. Indeed, Porsche has just shared a new lap of the Nürburgring, with a time of 7 minutes, 33 seconds and 35 hundredthsrelegating the Tesla Model S Plaid to more than two seconds.

Just like the American sedan, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S that set the record is a production versionPorsche specifying that its vehicle was simply equipped with a new package of dynamic chassis control options.

The option pack includes 21-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires that are road-legal but optimized for the circuit, and a chassis control software update. The rest of the feat is therefore simply to be attributed to the driver of the day, Lars Kern, who was able to break a new record which was validated by the German authorities.

It is true that our test of the Porsche Taycan more than two years ago made a strong impression on us.
