In order to beat production records again and again, Tesla has chosen to update the manufacturing lines of its Chinese factory: the Shanghai Gigafactory. This should allow it to make 2022 the year of all records, and reduce delivery times to a few weeks at most.
While in the United States, Tesla has chosen to no longer offer certain models to order due to far too long delays, and in Europe receiving your Tesla can take very long months, the situation seems very different in China. . Indeed, the latest updates to production lines have allowed Tesla to offer delivery of some models in just four weeks.
A production capacity of 2 million vehicles per year
In 2021, Tesla produced around a million vehicles, and expected to greatly exceed this figure in 2022. This will be the case, but the last quarter below expectations will probably not allow the firm of Elon Musk to reach the expected volumes for this year. Anyway, while production at the Gigafactory in Shanghai was still anemic a few months ago due to the zero-covid policy in place, updates to the production lines have made a major game-changer. .
Since the work undertaken in recent weeks, the plant would have an even higher annual production capacity than during its best quarters. As a reminder, when the figures for the second quarter of 2022 were announced, Tesla had a production capacity of more than 750,000 vehicles per year in Shanghai. With factory update, Tesla should be able to reach a cruising speed of 2,000,000 vehicles per year, with all its factories, by the end of the year.
Delays ? Who mentioned deadlines?
Those who have recently ordered a Tesla know it only too well: the delivery will probably not be for right away. Indeed, in France for example, ordering a Tesla and having it before the end of the year is a miracle, and the wait displayed can sometimes reach eight to ten months depending on the versions ordered.
In the USA, Tesla had recently withdrawn the Model 3 Grande Autonomie from the order after announcing that the delays were too long. In China, however, this has just changed considerably, with indicated deadlines which can be as little as four weeks for the Tesla Model Y Propulsion. This model does not exist in Europe at the moment, but it is not impossible that it will land soon.
For the other models on the Chinese configurator, the deadlines are also reduced, since it only takes three to five months to be delivered in the worst case. For comparison, a blue Tesla Model Y Performance with a white interior is not expected before next spring in France.
