Launched in 2016, the application offers unsold food from restaurants or food shops at discounted prices every day and now boasts nearly 20,000 users in Aveyron.
Flunch in Rodez, Intermarché in Bozouls, Carrefour brands in Espalion or Cassagnes, but also fishmongers, hotels (for breakfast leftovers in particular) or organic supermarkets… The department currently has around a hundred brands that have accepted to become partners of Too good to go, an application intended to fight against food waste.
Its name literally means “too good to leave”, meaning by that “too good to be thrown away”, and this is what motivated Laurence Thuriès, manager of the Carrefour Contact store in Cassagnes-Bégonhès, whose brand plays the game since April 2019. “Over the last 30 days, we have saved 109 baskets. On average we offer five baskets a day, fresh produce with a short use-by date, slightly damaged vegetables, sometimes liquid or grocery products”she explains.
In Aveyron, the company claims nearly 20,000 users who have “saved” a total of 80,000 baskets since the launch of the application in 2016. At the Cassagnes supermarket, 1,272 baskets have found takers over the past twelve months. “We started early, we were among the first in Aveyron. The interest is not to throw away the products and to allow our customers to benefit from reduced prices. The baskets have a value of 12 to 15 € and are sold €3.99”continues Laurence Thuriès.
“I hate to throw awaysays the manager of the store opened in 2015. At the beginning, we threw a lot, it hurt my heart. Our registration on Too good to go has brought people into the store, because the beginnings were difficult. It also helps introduce new flavors to customers.”.
Nearly 27% of the amount of transactions goes to Too good to go
“Money is not my primary motivation”, continues Laurence Thuriès. Too good to go receives €1.09 on a basket sold to the customer for €3.99, i.e. almost 27% of the total amount of the transaction. The manager, she receives only € 2.90 on each basket. France is the company’s largest market, present in 15 countries in Europe and soon in the United States. Since its launch, it claims that “124 million baskets were saved, including 12 million in France”claims “144,000 merchant partners and 54 million downloads” of its application.
